Louisiana

We had the chance to travel to Louisiana for our friends Nathan and Jocelyn's wedding on April 24th. Since that is the same weekend as our 2nd anniversary, we decided to take a few days for ourselves in New Orleans!

Nathan and Jocelyn's Wedding, April 24 2010, Baton Rouge

Our first day in the Big Easy we did a bicycle tour. We were a bit nervous as we are not avid bicyclers, but those big cruisers are very easy to ride. New Orleans, being so flat, is also easy. The biggest hills we encountered were about 6ft in elevation. The 3 hour tour took us outside the French Quarter from Washington Square to the Faubourg Marigny, to St. Roch's Cemetaries, down Esplanade Ave, and by Ernie K-Doe's Mother In Law Lounge.
That night we celebrated our anniversary with a fancy dinner out at GW Fins. We had many suggestions for good places to go, and New Orleans has no short supply of great places to eat. But because of Jazz Fest, many of those places were all booked. We got a last minute reservation at GW Fins for late Sunday night, and it did not disappoint! We had fresh soft shell crab, amazing cocktails, and beautiful fillets for dinner.

We spent all day Monday just wondering about the French Quarter. I love this part of town. There is always something interesting to look at, a jazz band playing in the middle of the street, or a drink to be had. We had some sort of cocktail in our hands most of the day. Our hotel was the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon St. It was like a shining oasis in the middle of the loud, dirty, drunken Bourbon St. The hotel was amazing! We were on the concierge floor which provided us with breakfast morning, and free drinks every night! We had a jacuzzi and a very large tv. We couldn't even hear or see Bourbon St from our room, which late at night isn't a bad thing. We really enjoyed our room and our adventures in the French Quarter.

On Tuesday we went to the Aquarium that is located at the edge of the Quarter right on the waterfront. We were glad to get out of the hot sun for a little while. We loved the aquarium, but we do love to go to places like this. We took tons of pictures, so below is some of our favorites.
